Jokowi Meets Li Qiang and Vladimir Putin in Beijing - Global

, Beijing - President Joko Widodo held a significant bilateral meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang at the Diaoyutai State House in Beijing on October 17, 2023. During the Beijing visit, Jokowi also met President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

President Jokowi expressed his profound appreciation for the robust and comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and the People's Republic of China (PRC) over the past decade.

He highlighted the remarkable progress, stating, "The PRC has emerged as Indonesia's largest trading partner, with China also ranking as Indonesia's second-largest investor."

President Jokowi emphasized the pivotal role of this collaboration in strengthening both regional and international cooperation, with a primary focus on fostering peace and stability.

Additionally, President Jokowi showcased various aspects of the cooperation between Indonesia and the PRC, particularly in the domains of investment and infrastructure.

This included a notable partnership in the development of the New Nusantara Capital or Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), where he expressed his gratitude for the design planning collaboration between the Nusantara Capital Authority and Shenzhen.

He also acknowledged the significant interest of the Chinese private sector in the development of housing and healthcare in the Nusantara Capital.

"I appreciate the cooperation in design planning between the Nusantara Capital Authority and Shenzhen, as well as the interest of the Chinese private sector in Nusantara Capital, particularly in housing and healthcare," he said.

Furthermore, President Jokowi sought Prime Minister Li Qiang's support to expedite Chinese investments in IKN.

He also requested support regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of green industrial zones in North Kalimantan and the implementation of wind and solar energy projects.

In the realm of trade, President Jokowi called upon Prime Minister Li Qiang to support the expansion of access to Indonesian food products, agricultural goods, and fisheries products in the Chinese market. 

The meeting between Putin and Jokowi took place during the Welcoming Dinner Leaders Belt and Road Forum (BRF). The presidential press team showed their photo together without further details.

Visiting the Monument to the People's Heroes

The meeting was attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi; The Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan; The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises who is also serving as the Acting Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Erick Thohir, the Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and the Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Defense Attaché in Beijing, Brigadier General Mar. Benny P. Nadeak, was also present.

After the meeting, President Jokowi paid his respects at the Monument to the People's Heroes, laying a wreath.

This visit was part of President Jokowi's participation in the Belt and Road Forum in China.

Upon his arrival at the monument, President Jokowi stood before the wreath, listening to the national anthems of both countries.

Subsequently, he moved the wreath to the Monument to the People's Heroes as indicated in the Presidential Secretariat's written statement.

Jokowi, accompanied by the Indonesian delegation, then proceeded to the designated location.

Once the song "Flowers to the Heroes" concluded, President Jokowi meticulously adjusted the ribbon on the wreath, followed by a respectful gesture, before departing Tiananmen Square in a line of vehicles.
